Why You Shouldn’t Exceed The Trampoline Weight Limit

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Today we received an email in the customer service dept that I had to just share with everyone out there as this is a typical situation where a person has obviously over loaded the trampoline with total disregard for the specified weight limit and the trampoline frame was seriously damaged. This trampoline was purchased from a stock clearance warehouse and not from us. Attached are a few photos of the damage, you may be wondering why I’m posting something that could potentially be bad publicity for trampolines,  but in reality though this message is a serious message that needs to be put across to the public. Trampolines are “SAFE” until abused. I’m going to outline exactly what happened in this case and how this can be avoided by using your trampoline safely.

- Firstly the trampoline’s weights are a guide line, not to say that a kg over the specified weight will damage the trampoline but for best use try and stay within the guide lines. Generally the smaller the springs the lower the weight limit on the trampoline. Trampolines from well known outlets like Argos and B&Q are generally quite cheap but have very low weight limits.

- Secondly when purchasing new trampoline accessories make sure they are the right size and specification to your trampoline. For example the trampoline that we are talking about today is a 14ft trampoline that has 96 springs, the same amount of springs as our budget trampoline has, so in theory a replacement bed that we sell on our site would fit. What the customer didn’t check is what size her springs are. Her springs were considerably smaller than ours which would make her bed that she had bigger than the one she received from us, making the bed tauter than the manufacturer’s guideline.

- Thirdly the customer continued putting on the trampoline bed when the springs were over stretched, springs were also placed to close together not evenly space around the trampoline. We also recommend picturing the trampoline surface like a clock face and fitting the springs at regular intervals such as 12 o’clock, 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock.

These steps unfortunately lead to the trampolines untimely death. I have never personally seen damage to a trampoline like this, the pole snapped in half! Unfortunately the customer was not able to get the trampoline replaced under warranty as the retailer stated that the trampoline had been abused and refused the help the customer. This would not have happened if she did not choose to buy a cheap trampoline from a clearance site. When choosing your trampoline for your children you are choosing your Child’s safety which can never be compromised by impulse bought cheap trampolines and try going to a trampoline specialist such as us.  I hope this helps and please choose wisely.

Happy trampolining.
